So you've come to explore?

... Welcome!

If you're looking to work on your accent, or boost your public speaking, there is so much I want to share with you.

Over my years of coaching, I've been presented with thousands of questions and challenges faced by clients. And so often, a problem that someone thinks they have turns out to be a dead end.

I'll give a simple example for you.

It's from my accent & pronunciation coaching, but know that this whole idea applies to public speaking, communication and beyond.

So let's say a client called Daniel begins one of our sessions by saying:

"I really need to work on my W sound."

I ask: "Can you think of any words you're struggling with?"

Daniel says: "Sure! Words like 'world' and 'work'..."

Curious... I think ... there's nothing wrong with his W pronunciation.

I give him some other W words, and he says, "No, I'm fine with those."

He's right. He says them out loud and the W is perfect.

But Daniel's feeling about 'world' and 'work' is valid: his pronunciation is unclear. But that's nothing to do with his W pronunciation.

I lead Daniel through a process until he realises, with a gasp, that his real challenge is the vowel sound in those words.

"Wait, all this time I've been trying to fix the wrong problem?!"

– Yup.

A big part of what 'Coaching' is all about is being able to ask the right questions to help the client figure out what their real challenges and roadblocks are.

Only then can we move on to solving them.

And trying to answer the wrong questions can block your progress completely.

So this page represents the beginnings of my attempt to address various misconceptions and confusion about speech and pronunciation.

My hope is that, the more you explore, the more equipped you are for your journey.

The first of these is an extension of a YouTube series I published over on English Pronunciation Roadmap's channel.

It's an article and set of resources aimed at non-native English speakers.

You can check it out below – enjoy!

Learning Paths for: Non Native English Speakers

“To Those Who Are Fluent In English,
But Still Sound Flat...”

“In the first five minutes of the meeting, Sofia is asked to repeat herself three times.

Even when people seem to understand her, she gets nothing but blank looks.

"How is this happening?", she thinks. "The more I try to speak clearly, the less I'm being understood. The more I try to emphasise what I'm saying, the less people respond the way I want."

Unknowingly, she's approaching the problem from completely the wrong perspective...”

How To Master English Stress Patterns
...And Use Them Instinctively

"Today, I’m going to show you a powerful stress pattern in English.

But here’s the thing:

You’re probably going to fail at learning it.

Not because you’re not capable. But because most people try to memorise rules and drill examples – and it doesn’t stick. When it matters, in real conversations, you’ll slip back into old habits. Your speech will sound a little “off,” and you’ll wonder why.

But don’t worry. I’ll show you how to fix this.
